The ultimate financial question

by admin on May 11, 2010

Many people wonder exactly how they should teach their children about personal finances. Some wonder if they should get their kids some credit cards in order to show them how to use credit. Generally there are two schools of thought on this subject. Those for getting the kids the cards and those against.
For those who want to see parents getting their children credit cards, they claim that the best way to teach something like financial responsibility is to teach by experience. If you allow your children to begin using credit cards by the time they reach the age of 15 or 16, then they will learn some lessons about credit and keeping their expenses in check. Of course, they may have to learn the lessons the hard way, and this is where the other school of thought makes their main argument.

Those who say that children of 15 or 16 years of age are too young to start learning about credit hands on point to the fact that many kids are not ready for this kind of responsibility. If you kid does something reckless and overspends, then you are most likely the one who is going to be liable. They say this will also teach children to get addicted to credit too early.
This is a difficult subject to make up your mind on how you are going to deal with, but whichever side you choose you should be consistent with it.
